Becky comes top of the Wood' pile
By TMX Archives on 13th Aug 09

The big names in British female trialing locked horns this weekend for round six of the British Ladies and Girls Trials Championship at The Woodyard, Reeth, and there were a record 33 starters. At the top of the pile was Becky Cook who put her MRS Sherco in the top spot after the three laps of a dozen sections. Joanne Coles, Danielle Whitham and Hannah Richardson all wrapped up their respective class titles.
Meanwhile in the Ladies Inter, Emma Morphett is on a drop score, already having missed Cheadle in June, and on Sunday she went head to head against Lianda Dabill and Niki Wraight leaving her just one point behind Lianda in the Championship ready for the final round at Shorwell in October.
The results suggest otherwise, but Becky Cook had a bad start. The 23-year-old had ten marks on her punch card after just five sections. Richie Sunter awarded her a failure when she could not get the MRS Sherco driving up the grassy bank at the top of the fourth section where Donna Fox took a single dab.
Foxy' started badly with nervous marks in the river at the first and second sections so that was five marks to pull back. Emma Bristow fought her JST round the awkward turn with minder Andy Chilton quietly calling the moves while Katy Sunter did the same with Dan Thorpe right on hand. The spectators waited for Joanne Coles and Hannah Styles, and it was worth the wait. Coles was just brilliant and posted the only clean along with Cook's third lap ride.
It went from bad to worse for Cook when the Sherco died in the middle of the rocky fifth section. That was ten down in five sections, and Becky was the first to mention her appalling start. but Becky did what she usually does, she got her head down and rode. When the punch cards were changed after the first lap Cook and Bristow were level with Foxy on 21 and Coles on a round dozen.
