ITALIAN manufacturer Beta is the latest to unveil its two-stroke REV-3 trials offering for 2008. The machine has benefited from a raft of minor modifications and updates to match the competition.

A lot of the engine changes are aimed at offering improved throttle response all through the rev-band.

A new Keihin PWK 28mm carburettor is aimed to give more immediate andlively response at the bottom end, together with a marked improvementin power and acceleration in the middle-to-upper range.

This has been matched to a new filter box to optimise the fit with thenew Keihin carburettor, and offers improved airflow thanks to a largerdiameter sleeve.

The new dedicated carburettor union is 5mm longer to optimise re-sponse at low revs and improve feel.

A redesign on the cylinder head on the 250cc and 270cc models ensuresmore regular carburation when shutting the throttle and, additionally, provides greater engine torque.

The crankcases of the power-plant have also been reworked to reducecrankcase volume, with a nett increase in smoothness at low revs.

The motor also benefits from new main bearings, to ensure greatersmoothness and reliability, and a new crankshaft oil-seal, offering areduction in friction. This also gives the engine a cleaner response tothe throttle.

On the rolling-chassis, there are new fork settings which have made thefront forks more sensitive in absorbing bumps as well as more reactiveon the rebound phase.

To compliment this, the rear suspension has also been reworked, particularly with different rear shock settings to offer more stable per-formance over time, combined with greater reliability.

The 270cc model features a single-chamber silencer which is claimed tosmooth out the power delivery at low engine speeds, making it even morelinear, and provides a noticeable increase in power and acceleration atthe top end.

Created as a ‘race-ready' engine size, the 270cc has evolved a stagefurther, delivering even higher performance combined with maximumusability.

The whole package has a bright new colour scheme, a brand-new mix of white and fluorescent red.

British importer, John Lampkin, is expecting deliveries to commence‘‘...towards the end of this month or early in October at the latest.''

Though not yet finalised, he tells us that he is aiming to maintain the current pricing structure.
