Bolter's taxing free Isa
By TMX Archives on 10th Sep 09

IT seems a long time since 500 riders blasted off the line at Coney Green Farm for the opening round of the 2009 GBXC Championship. Baden Hall, Meashafn, Devon and Glanusk have all been and gone and the final round of the series wrapped things up nicely at Carrog Isa, near Llangollen, over the weekend. This was a new venue for the GB X-Country entourage but it proved to be one of the best and provided its own quirky challenges for the strong entry, which took to the line. The fast and flowing six-mile course took riders over the hill tops, through wooded sections, slippery shale downhills and across more than a few flat-out straights, most of which were off-camber, just to add to the torment.
KTM UK's Darryl Bolter was back on a 250F in the Pro Lite class, having already wrapped up the series at Galnusk Park, and he continued with his winning ways by taking the overall victory some two minutes clear of Mid West Husaberg mounted Tom Sagar, who finally took a well deserved Pro Champion title amongst the boys on the big bikes.
All of the Pros were going well but MPS Husqvarna's Si Wakely ended his challenge with a huge over-the-bars spill, complete with cartwheel from both rider and bike, a third of the way into the 2.5-hour race.
KTM's ‘Special', Greg Evans, chased Bolter hard for the overall win but a blown rear shock towards the end of the race saw him slide down the order as Steve Plain Gas Gas' Ash Wood rocketed to second spot in the Pros. ET James Kawasaki rider Tim Foreman hung in with the leaders to take third with Lewis Belfield fourth and Evans fifth.
