ANOTHER convincing win to take his tally for the season to seven, and the latest one on home turf, means that Toni Bou is now just a single point away from taking his third straight outdoor World title. Bou's Japanese team mate Takahisa Fujinami kept him true on the day and completed an important one-two for the Spanish based Repsol-Montesa team in front of a large local crowd.

Adam Raga battled bravely, having only just returned from a knee operation, but was kept off the rostrum after Jeroni Fajardo produced a stunning last lap to snatch third spot. Albert Cabestany was never on the pace, but still managed to finish fifth in one of the toughest rounds of the year.

The terrain around the small town of Tona lacked variety, with the majority of the widely spread sections featuring steep, dusty and dry rock faces, which incorporated a never ending series of steps, some of which were downright dangerous. The British contingent in the top class never looked at home in these conditions and whilst they fought strongly their results told the true story. James Dabill was the best of the pack in seventh, but on a score nearly four times as high as Bou's.

FINAL ROUND: September 13 – Isola 2000, FRANCE.

THE fifth and final round of the 2009 European Trials Championship round preceded Sunday's penultimate SPEA FIM World round when it took place at the same venue at Tona, Spain, north of Barcelona on Saturday. The event followed the same course as the World Round and incorporated easier routes through the 15 sections that was lapped twice by the entry.

And the big news for Britain is that Jonathan Richardson added the European Junior title to the World Youth Championship that he already has under his belt. The rapidly improving Yorkshire lad only managed sixth place on his 125 Sherco on the steep, dry and dusty Spanish slopes but still comfortably took the title from Italian rival Luca Cotone with winner on the day, home rider Pere Borrellas, taking third.
