Bolton goodies at Nord Vue
By TMX Archives on 22nd Nov 07
THE Nord Vue venue is set high on a hillside overlooking the M6 between Penrith and Carlisle. Following many a long week building a quality track around the fell-side, the DirtBike-Traxs crew brought in its own machines to carve a track around the quarry area and the resulting section was simply an awesome addition, proving an enjoyable challenge that can be summed up as the icing on the cake.
The weekend kicked off on Saturday when formerBritish Enduro champion, Wyn Hughes, and Husky star, Si Wakely, madethe long trip from Wales to take charge of an enduro academy. Theturn-out was excellent and after a full day in the saddle, the ridersreturned with nothing but praise for the two Team Husky instructors. These guys made such an impression with the riders that DirtBike-Traxshave had to arrange another academy day with the pair on December 15,at Ellington Banks, Ripon.
As Sunday dawned, it was clear that there had beenheavy rain through the night but, despite the weather, the track wasnot adversely affected.
At 9am, the Junior Hare Scramblers kicked off witha race of 60 minutes duration over a shortened course, missing out mostof the Quarry section. In Senior B, Jake Gowan, riding in his firstHare Scramble, showed his skill from the off over the Penrith terrainas he lead from start to finish. He lapped every other rider at leasttwice to take an emphatic win, completing ten laps. In second place wasAdam Taylor ahead of Ayrton Aldridge.
In the Junior class, Luke Flack put into practicewhat he had learned during the previous day's enduro academy by takingthe win from the improving Michael Tatham and Ben Green.
The main race of the day got under way at 10.30amwhen the first of the 220 adult riders, the Experts, set off around thecircuit. Sandiford team rider, Paul Bolton, took up his accustomedposition at the front of the Expert class, closely followed by histeam-mate Jason Crosland. These two pulled a good lead over the rest ofthe field until Crosland hit a rock in the grass. He travelled for thenext 50 meters on the front wheel before hitting another rock whichcart-wheeled him and his bike in spectacular fashion.
