Last Sunday the second round of the Phoenix Tools Premier Motocross Championships took place at Phoenix Moto Parc, Kingsteignton, Devon.

As with the opening round there was a big entry and with rain falling overnight the track was in prime condition in the morning and allowed some top quality racing.

In the Phoenix Tools Expert Open Class Belgian rider Maarten Cremers had set the fastest time in qualifying, just ahead of

team-mate and Championship leader Jackson Evans.

But it was Darren Shears who had the best start in the opening race from Ryan Houghton and Cremers – with Evans well down the field.

Shears was flying on the opening lap, as was Cremers, who soon passed Houghton and was closing in on Shears at a rapid rate.

The Belgian was pushing hard to hit the front and he got his nose in front down the Deer Park hill. Tommy Alba was fourth and soon came under pressure from Jordan Booker, but the 15-year-old held on for a further four laps before a slight mistake on a slow right-hander was enough to let Booker through.

By the end of lap seven Cremers had a five-second lead but Shears, closed in by Booker, had stepped up a gear and was giving his all until the last lap when Booker edged his way past and snatched second behind Cremers.

In the second moto Evans was out to make amends for his disappointing opening race and did so with a blistering start ahead of Luke Hill.

It wasn't the best of starts for Booker though and  race one winner Cremers was even further back.

Evans was soon into a rhythm and started to ease away at the front, while Houghton was all over Hill and desperately looking to get past.

He finally found a way through on lap five and now Hill had Booker and John May breathing down his neck.

Booker moved up to third on lap seven, with May now fourth.

Jamie Skuse was a man in a hurry and soon passed May who had picked up a rear-wheel puncture.

Evans cruised to the win from Booker with Skuse taking an excellent third.

In the last moto Wayne Shimell had the best start from Evans, but Shimell's lead was short-lived as he went down on a tight right hander on the opening lap which left Evans with a clear track which he used to great advantage.

Booker moved up to second on lap two, but he had Cremers all over him.
