Bou shows Polish polish

Motocross

2007 SPEA World Trials Championship was staged in Poland last Sunday and while the style of sections was very different to the usual rock-step fest, being mainly slippery, very steep climbs in a wood, the end result was exactly the same as all that has gone before - Toni Bou was way out on his own!

It was very close for the remaining podium slots though, with AdamRaga and Albert Cabestany eventually taking the honours from Bou'sRepsol-Montesa team-mates Takahisa Fuji-nami and Dougie Lampkin.Fujigas was nudged off the podium only on a tie-break after tieing withCabestany.

The Polish trial took place, as last year, at Myslenice, 25 milesfrom Krakow, and the majority of the sections, set in the dark, woodedvalley were also as used previously. There were several new ones, albeit on similar lines, and these were covered in several inches offallen leaves and the sections took the best part of the two laps tobecome rideable. The final section of the 15, lapped twice, was aman-made one at the start/finish.

So while the end result was pretty much as-you-were, Dougie - insearch of that epic 100th GP win - was right on the case on the firstlap, finishing just two marks astern of Bou after the 15 hazards.Unfortunately, the wheels rather came off the Brit's cart second timeround, thanks to maximums at the fourth and fifth sections, plus hethen stalled the four-stroke several times and instead of a solidrunner-up berth, as Bou really upped the pace, fifth was scant reward.

Said Doug, ''I thought I was on for a safe second place but I reallyshouldn't have fived the fifth section and then the stalls cost medear. It was a tough trial though and my hand (hurt at the Japaneseround ) was really hurting on the second lap.''

Ross polishes off the Juniors

AS usual, the European Championship trial preceded the World Round inMyslenice, Poland, on Saturday when, after heavy rain during the week,at least trials day turned out fine, if overcast. Conditions wereslippery but a very sensible course produced a low-scoring trial.

And in the Euro Juniors there was joy for Britain's Ross Danby asthe Gas Gas rider finally put one over his season-long nemesis AlfredoGomez to score maximum points and stand on the top of the podium.

After dropping just four marks on the opening lap, a two and a pairof ones, Ross then pulled-off a dream ride with an absolutely cleansecond circuit. Even with an easier course this is still an awesomefeat of concentration and skill and no-one else managed it, althoughGomez made it to the penultimate section before cracking and a one wenton his card.

This put both battling contenders four marks each and into a tie-break which Ross won thanks to 27 cleans to 26.
