Skyrakes, North Yorkshire Riding back in his home centre of Yorkshire, James Dabill from Leeds rounded off his 2006 domestic campaign with a fighting third place at the final round held near Skipton earlier today.

Dabill's podium position gives him fourth place in the series, as he failed to catch season long rival Shaun Morris in the overall standings despite defeating him today.

The day begun well for James as he matched recently crowned British champion Graham Jarvis, mark for mark throughout most of the first lap, to be just one mark behind his Trial Des Nations team mate after the initial tour of the fourteen tough sections. Jarvis and Dabill were the only two riders to be in single digits at this point, with Steve Colley being their nearest challenger on eighteen marks, and with the rest of the field all having scores of twenty plus for the same period.

But after a strong start, Dabill's assault was to quickly falter as he lost valuable time as he had to attend to a mechanical issue. With the fault rectified James then set about the task of getting back on schedule, but the effects of his rushing through the sections was clear to see on his second lap punch card.

This was very much a similar story on the third and final lap, as despite Dabill's best efforts his observation score continued to rise heavily despite him keeping his time penalties to just a single mark. The impact of James' hasty approach to the closing two laps was to drop him from a close second place to a disappointing and distant third spot come the finish.

" A poor end to what has been a poor championship for me. After the first round I really had high hopes of pushing Graham for the title, or at least finishing in the top three at the end of the year, but in reality both of those hopes soon faded.”

" After having won the European championship and finished ninth in my first season of the World championship proper, my results in the British championship have been disappointing to say the least. I now need to use this winter, to learn from my mistakes and to come back in 2007 as a stronger rider at both World and British levels.”
