Brown fourth in Italian Euro round

THE third round of the SPEA European Trials Championship took place in the mountains of northern Italy in the town of ERBA on Saturday, preceding Sunday's World Round, and once again the Brits struggled terribly in a competition they were really looking to challenge hard in.
The event was staged in the wooded slopes of the mountainous regions with the majority of sections set in dryish, rocky river-beds with loose-earth exit bankings.
Two laps of 15 sections was the standard order of play and the eventual winner was James Dabill's veteran Future Montesa team-mate Fabio Lenzi. Lenzi, who is currently leading Dabill in the 2007 Italian Trials Championships, has worked his way up from sixth in Spain and third in France to nail his first Euro win of the year which hoists him to joint second in the five-round series alongside first round winner, Sherco's Dani Oliveras.
Series leader, by just five points, is Spanish Montesa rider Daniel Gibert, runner-up on Saturday and it looks like these three will battle it out to the finish in the two final rounds in Poland and Norway.
Michael Brown threw his chances of clawing his way into contention for the title with a disastrous opening lap when he dropped four maximums on the TTT Beta to end the loop on 25 compared to the nine of Gibert and just six for Lenzi.
Mighty Atom, Brown, then proved what could have been by posting the best single lap score of the day with just four on his second lap with a two and two dabs. This compared to the next best lap score which was Lenzi's ten.
