Following six action packed rounds which all kicked off in the snow at Brampton in March, the BYMX series then went on the road visiting both Scotland and Northern Ireland, and it all comes to a thrilling climax this weekend at Milton Park near Northampton this weekend September 10/11.
RMJ Academy trained youngster Adam Sterry has had his pedal pressed firmly to the EVO Tech Honda metal throughout the second half of the season, and following sensational victory at the previous three rounds he now jointly leads the way in the Youth Open section. Sterry drawing level with the long time leader of the series Nathan Watson on the HM Plant Red Bull KTM. Manxman Jamie McCanney on the Road and Track KTM has also been in terrific form over the closing rounds and he is now just four points off top spot. Although at the time of going to press there is doubt surrounding McCanney's fitness with a suspected broken wrist. The 2011 title will be claimed by one of the trio and it's sure to be a tension packed nail biter. Looking further down the table at positions four five and six, Jake Millward, Scott Hamilton and Damon Brooks will be all out to impress.
The situation in the Big-wheel 85cc division is just as tight as that found in the Open section with another three guys quite tantalisingly up for the ultimate gold prize. Brad Todd, Liam Knight and Jack Gardner are the names in the frame, and currently just six points separate them. Todd leads the way with Gardner in third - but as in the Open it will be a three way winner takes all affair. Matthew Callaghan took a terrific overall win at round six, he's currently in fourth place and he will be all out for another top step show. Rob Davidson sits in championship fifth with Stuart Fee on the Suzuki in sixth.
In the remaining two sections the championship much more clear cut. Alexander Brown on the MotoOne KTM heads the Junior 65cc standings, 26 points clear of Jed Etchells with Ireland's Callum Meara a further 29 back in third. The battle for fourth and fifth place however is absolutely in the balance with Colin Scott just one point ahead of Adam Dunn. Twisted 7's Harry Kimber is currently in sixth but Oliver Costerdine will be all eyes for an upwards improvement.
Somerset's Conrad Mewse leads the way in the Small-wheel 85cc ranks, holding a virtually unassailable 38 point margin over second placed Jay Hague. Durham lad Hague has in turn a 42 point advantage over third placed Jordan Eccles. David Keet on the Twisted 7 Kawasaki and ACU Academy rider Taylor Hamal are both within striking distance of third placed Eccles and a terrific scrap for the bronze could develop. Aaron Piper, Alfie Mountford and Jamie Carpenter are next in the list locked together in a close battle for championship sixth.
As an added bonus there will be a fifth Youth Champion crowned on Saturday in the Auto class, as pilots go head to head over four heats for the 2011 British title. And in Sunday action the British Adult Two Stroke champions will also be decided.
