JAMES Dabill heads for the Scott Trial this weekend as newly crowned Italian Trials Champion, having secured the title at the final round of the series in Grosio.

James was pushed all the way in the race to the title by his ItalianTRW Montesa team-mate, Fabio Lenzi, but two strong wins in the finaltwo rounds took Dabill clear of the Italian veteran rider.

The high-profile TRW squad had targeted the Italian series for James in2007, at the expense of his home British Championship, but despite astrong start James had a couple of weak results during the summerallowing Lenzi to draw close.

However, the Leeds rider bounced back to finish the job in style.

James did manage to fit in a couple of British rounds, with the firstone being the Yeadon-Guiseley club's round at Brimham Rocks in Augustwhich he promptly won. He then finished second to Shaun Morris in thefollowing Thames MCC round at Hook Woods.

Said James: ''The TRW team set out some targets at the beginning of theseason and winning the Italian Championship was one of them.

''I made hard work of it in the middle of the season but got back ontrack and finished strong with four wins from eight starts. I'd like tothank the team and to my full-time assistant Jack Lee who has made areal difference this year.''

Looking forward to tomorrow's (Saturday) Scott Trial, he took a fine athird-place finish last year on the TTT Beta two-stroke, and is lookingforward to bettering this on his TRW Montesa 4RT. Last year he finishedjust 12 minutes and a mere five marks on observation down on winnerDougie Lampkin.

With Dougie and Dibs on Montesas and Graham Jarvis on the Sherco 4T the 2007 Scott looks like being the battle of the thumpers!
