Dougie Lampkin – Repsol Montesa HRC
By TMX Archives on 22nd Oct 07
The Scott Time + Observation Trial. Richmond, North Yorkshire, UK Saturday 20th October.
Dougie Lampkin Repsol Montesa HRC destroyed his rivals with one of the mostdominant performances ever seen at the famous Scott time and observation trial.Lampkin's total of just twenty marks was nearly half that of runner up GrahamJarvis, who once again started as the pre event favourite. Fastest on time andbest on observation, Dougie made it back to back wins, with him having also wonwhat is regarded as the toughest one day trial in the World, twelve monthsago.
Following his victory last year, after a twelve-year absence,Lampkin vowed that it may be a few more years before he returned again, such wasthe scale of the challenge he had endured. However the lure of the toughadventure across the North Yorkshire moors was too much to resist, and a secondhome coming was announced. The predicted battle between Scott specialist Jarvis,a seven times winner, and Lampkin, who has only competed in this event on threeprevious occasions attracted a fantastic crowd to pack the traditional Britishsections.
Against a backdrop of brilliant winter sunshine and some of thebest scenery anywhere in the World, Dougie signalled his intentions right fromthe outset and soon opened up a seven minute advantage over Jarvis as he carvedhis way through the two hundred strong field. Lampkin hit the front just afterthe fourth fuel stop, a position he maintained until he proudly rode up thefinish field as the first rider home, from a starting number only twenty numbersfrom the back of the pack.
A delighted Lampkin stated. There have beentimes over the last few weeks when I thought riding again was not such a goodidea. But having now won it for a second time in a row, all the worrying andefforts seems more than worthwhile. To win by such a clear margin, makes it looklike it has been easy, but in truth it was every bit as hard as I remembered itfrom last year. Again I must thank the Richmond Motor Club for putting on such afantastic event, one that is so special to me and so many otherriders.
