Elliott Banks-Brownes speed has never been in doubt but since moving up to a 450 at the start of the 2014 season the two-time MX2 champ has struggled with injuries.

At the opening two rounds of this year's Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship the Geartec Husqvarna rider's had one good race and one bad race but at Canada Heights on Sunday he finally strung two good motos together to end the day second overall.

"Today has been much better,” he said. "I feel like I should have been doing this from round one but I've had some bad luck the last few weeks.

We finished both races but I felt like the second race I got going good at the beginning and then halfway through I got into a bad rhythm.

"I've been suffering a lot from arm-pump recently when I'm out front but if we can sort that out I feel as though we can be up there every week and battling for the wins.”

EBB won the opening race after a fierce battle with Buildbase Honda's Graeme Irwin and backed this up with third in race two and despite sitting sixth in the standings, 27 points behind new leader Steven Lenoir (Hobbs Racing Kawasaki), he's confident he can still challenge for the title.

"The championship's wide open. I know I'm a few points back but I feel if I can have a few good races I can close the gap up. I feel I have the speed, fitness and ability to win the championship.

The other boys are good so it's going to be tough and I've given myself a lot of work to do but the first year I won the MX2 championship I was more points back than I am now.

"Realistically, if I have a few good races I'm not a long way off. I've got to make sure I don't have any more bad races or DNFs and then I feel we'll be there at the end.”
