Motocross

ROUND Three of the BYMX championship took place at Brampton in Cumbria, hosted by the East Cumbria Motocross Club. On a course that was fast but tough to master, the undulating terrain served up more than its fair share of thrills and spills which resulted in glory and a bagful of points for some, but real heartache for others.

Ben Watson proved yet again that he has all thenecessary skills and talent to be the top dog in the Junior 65ccsection as he romped home to three classy race wins and a fightingfourth place to take the overall win in style.

In keeping with previous rounds, the scrap for theother placings was as competitive as ever and Matty Callaghan returnedhis best set of results so far, in a typical gutsy and determinedfashion, to claim second overall. Jack Heath had another greatweekend's work in third with excellent performances from Callan Cooperwith a race two win finishing in fourth overall and Corrie Southwood infifth overall.

A sympathetic word also for Oliver Osmaston whosuffered the cruellest of bad luck with a broken leg in the heat of agreat tussle for the lead in race two. Everyone's best wishes for aspeedy return to Oliver.

Matthew Fleming, the New Flying Scotsman' as somehave christened him, completely dominated the Small-wheel 85cc classwith another towering display that took the field apart in the openinglaps of three of his races. Matthew duly went on to secure a hat trickof combatable victories in them all.

The other race win went to Andrew Reid on thefour-stroke Honda who, apart from a disastrous race two, had a greatweekend. Likewise, ultra competitive and consistent Rob Muscat tookthree second place finishes to hoist himself up to second position inthe championship standing. Scott Aldridge had a weekend he would liketo forget in the main but still finished with third place overall.
