France has Six appeal
By TMX Archives on 5th Oct 12
After six demanding days of riding, France proved they are the most dominant nation in enduro by securing all three classes at the ISDE in Saxony, Germany.
Held at the famous Sachsenring race circuit, the French culminated a spectacular week of racing by securing the World Trophy team, Junior World Trophy team and the Women's World Trophy team competitions.
While France won the all the major classes, the event also proved to be a successful one for Great Britain, as the quartet of Danny McCanney (Gas Gas), Alex Rockwell (Husaberg), Jack Rowland (Husqvarna) and Steve Holcombe (KTM) rode to second overall in the Junior World Trophy classification.
With Great Britain also finishing eighth overall in the highly competitive World Trophy Team event, Team Wales added
further success to the large British contingent present in Germany, by placing fifth overall in the Club Team competition.
"The Junior World Trophy team delivered an incredible result at this level of competition – we gave France a good run for their money,” enthused Great Britain team manager Dusty Martin.
"The French were favourites to win the Junior class but at the end of day two Great Britain were leading.
"Unfortunately, they caught us up and took over the lead but the margin was always a close one.
"To finish less than three minutes behind a team with two world champions in it, and nearly 15 minutes in front of everybody else, shows just how much we've improved in 12 months.
"The World Trophy team were always going to be a steady squad. It's a tough ask for them to challenge countries that figure heavily in the Enduro World Championship, but they coped admirably.
"Finishing eighth overall was a very solid result. At home I've kept the TMX cover from when we returned from Chile in 2007.
"The headline reads ‘Britain Bring Back Five Golds'. This year we've won ten and that's a result we can all be proud of.”
In the World Trophy team competition, France immediately hit the front at the end of day one.
Armed with one of the strongest teams in the world, comprising Antoine Meo (KTM), Christophe Nambotin (KTM), Johnny Aubert (KTM), Pela Renet (Husaberg), Rodrig Thain (Honda) and Seb Guillaume (Gas Gas), they soon opened up a
four-minute lead over Australia.
Continuing to build on their advantage, they increased that margin to 12 minutes as four of their riders held down the top four positions in the individual classification.
By day three their lead had reached a comfortable 19 minutes over Australia, who were controlling second place.
However, the fight for the final step of the podium constantly changed between Finland, Spain and Italy.
By the halfway point all three countries had lost one rider.
