JAMES Dabill, reigning British Trials Champion, dominated the first round of the ACU Events British Solo Trials Championship at Low North Park, Harwood Dale, Scarborough, on Sunday. The 23-year old International rode his JST Gas Gas to a 27 mark advantage over MRS Sherco teamster and good friend Michael Brown.
Meanwhile Jack Challoner claimed third place for Beta-UK, his first Adult Championship podium, finishing well ahead of European champion Alexz Wigg. Rosedale's Ian Austermuhle headed the Expert Class A from Lakelander Jonny Walker and Gary Macdonald, while Ipswich's 16- year old British Youth Champion Jack Sheppard put his 125cc Beta-UK machine into fourth place to claim the Capacity Cup for John Lampkin's company. Finally Darren Brice topped the Expert class B results ahead of John Crinson and Robert Harries.
Conditions at the Scarborough Motor Club's Low North Park venue were at their worst after weeks of snow and a heavy frost on Saturday evening. The weak winter sun on Sunday thawed-out some of the 12 sections, but in its wake left soft muddy surfaces. This mud then dragged onto the rocky sections making them just about impossible to ride.
