Marvin Musquin is the new MX2 World champion. The French teenager wrapped it up with a devastating first moto performance, and set the seal on the title by completing his fourth double win of the year after a titanic struggle with Ken Roczen and Steven Frossard.
MX1 champion, Toni Cairoli, was never in the hunt after a fortnight out of training following his knee operation, but Max Nagl made sure of class silver and Clement Desalle won the battle for third with his second GP victory of the season. Only four Brits ventured to South America.
Shaun Simpson broke top ten in both motos as he continues his comeback trail, Jake Nicholls recorded his best-ever GP finish, and CCM duo Tom Church and Jason Dougan also got on the score-chart as all four confirmed their world top 20 rankings

MUSQUIN only needed to win one of the two motos to clinch the MX2 crown, but he was clearly in trouble in the early laps of the opener as title rival Rui Goncalves sprinted away from the pack.
"There was something wrong with my tear-offs. They were sticking to each other and I was just ripping off a small strip. In the end I had to slow down and take them all off – I was wiping my goggles with my glove and couldn't see properly right to the end of the race,” explained the new champion.
But Goncalves was soon in even more trouble: "One of the fork legs was leaking oil. It was really hairy on the jumps.”
By the fourth lap Musquin was on a charge past Roczen, Valentin Teillet, and Goncalves. The Portuguese was man enough to admit: "I made a mistake when Marvin went past, but it would have happened anyway before long.”
Once he had come to terms with the tear-off problem, Musquin had taken THREE seconds off his times, or that of anyone else: "I could have kept it up, but I didn't need to. I know I am the fastest, and I like the track here so much.”
MX1
THERE had been little at stake in the championship standings in MX2, but in MX1 there was plenty still on the line.
Max Nagl shot to the front as usual, but the German's concentration was not at its peak: "I was thinking too much about finishing second in the championship and didn't want to make a mistake or crash.”
Max's second place to Desalle in race one, ahead of Philippaerts and De Dycker, ensured that neither the Italian nor ‘Keeno' could threaten his silver medal ambitions, but Desalle's win brought the LS Honda man to within 24 points of the factory KTM rider.
