Motocross

GLORIOUS sunshine greeted the riders and families from all over the UK and Ireland as the Express Insurance ACU British Youth Motocross Championship rolled into Foxhill Moto Park for the final round of this year's championship, and what a cracker of a weekend it was. With none of the championship classes decided coming into the final round, all the riders were on the gas from the start and some excellent displays were witnessed.Organisers, the ACU Events team, along with the members of the track staff from Foxhill, made sure everything was in pristine condition all weekend and all must be congratulated for all the hard work they put in.

Racing got underway, after the usual practice and qualifying sessions, with the Big-wheel 85cc class. All the nerves were left in the paddock as the riders came to the line for what must have been the closest class all year as the battle for the title was on the line for two riders, Ryan Houghton and Nathan Watson. It was Watson who showed his class as he blasted into the lead, closely followed by Sunny Thompson, Luke Norris, Luke Newman and Houghton in fifth. Watson went on to win, with the pack trailing in behind him in the same order, apart from Houghton who took fourth place.

Race two, and a similar story as Watson got away at the front, with Houghton trying to chase him down in second and having battles with Jordan Keogh, Luke Norris and Jake Millward. Thompson had a bad start but was coming through like a train and took Millward and Norris to move into third. Watson won his second race with Houghton second and Thompson third.

Day two, and Watson again dominated the proceedings and went on to win race three from Norris and Thompson in second and third.

In race four, Watson again took off in the lead, leaving the rest to squabble over the minor placings. Norris came in second after Thompson gave him a hard time along with Millward and Houghton in their own battle.

Houghton had done enough to claim the title after the fourth race but the final race of the championship saw Watson take another win to take his total to five wins. Thompson, Millward and Liam Garland got second third and fourth and the champion took the fifth place.
