Jack the whipper!

Motocross

BRITAIN has a new supercross hero! Jack Brunell, the 20-year-old from Windsor, has served his apprenticeship through two winters of German SX well and came out with all-guns blazing in Stuttgart at the weekend to wrestle top perch on the podium of the Youngsters Cup on both evenings against a truly class international field.

Ashley Greedy ate dirt too often to join Jack in collecting trophies, but hung in there for sixth each night, while the big class was inevitably a clean sweep for the American SX and Arenacross specialists who made up half the field.

With 25 hopefuls from eight countries chasing a dozen places at the start of the two SX2 motos each evening, even the afternoon qualification was hectic in the highest-profile SX series outside the USA, but both Brits held their nerve each afternoon to make the main programme; and for anybody who thinks that was a simple matter, German champion Dennis Baudrexl and SA GP regular Shannon Terreblanche each missed the cut one day!
