Jon's Golden Bliss

FIFTY-five riders turned up for Golden Valley Classic club's trial at Catswood Farm, Bisley, near Stroud, on Saturday afternoon. The club made the decision to run the event on Saturday to avoid the Remembrance Day silences. Due to the concerns regarding fading light, it was decided to run only three laps of ten sections.Rain the previous night left some sections slick, although nowhere near as bad as the club's previous trial at this venue. The killer section proved to be section nine. On the Hard route, this section was a tight right turn followed by a climb over a difficult set of roots between two rather aggressive-looking trees.
The Easy route on this section consisted of a series of cambered turns and less threatening
roots, however the wet entry to the section soon became slippery and by lap three, had taken marks off every competitor except overall winner, Jon Bliss.
Ironically, Bliss lost his only five marks on the greasy decline of section one which caused him to exit the section in rather dramatic fashion at the bottom of the hill.
In the final scores, it was only four marks that separated the lowest four scorers - Jon Bliss, Tim Wheeler, Nigel Tomkins and Phil Goodwin.
Other notable achievements came from Alan Taylor on a Tiger Cub, Richard Smith on a mono Beta, Rob Halliday on his trusty Enfield and Pat Barrett on a Cotton.
On the Easy route, the overall winner was Brian Hyett on his BSA Bantam who finished on eight marks, very closely followed by Schoolboy Josh Moss who was one mark adrift. Other class wins came from Pete Pearce on a Pampera, Mike Wheeler on a Bantam, A Bishop on his TY250 and P Brown on a Scorpa.
The club's next trial is on December 27. All riders on any bike are welcome at this event.
