WINNER on a most cleans tie-break the week before, Michael Brown also scooped round two of the Colin Appleyard ACU British Solo Trials Championship by a clear eight mark margin in the Neath club's St David's trial. Run over three laps of the mighty rocks at Llety Rafel Farm on Sunday, Michael won this time from reigning champ Graham Jarvis, who although with a tongue-in-cheek smile said he is getting too old, has no intentions of giving up his title lightly. Last week's runner-up, James Dabill, was on duty in the Italian Championship for his Future TRW Montesa team
Recording four failures on lap one from his 25-mark total, three right at the end of the opening lap after the leading contenders found themselves exceedingly tight on time and asking for fives. Brown and Jarvis both lost two time faults at the end of the lap with Morris just one. Browny then settled down to business with a stunning seven-mark second circuit, but closely
followed by Jarvis on just eight, both leaving Alexz Wigg and Shaun Morris far behind.
A rushed final lap with time again a problem caused Brown no further penalties as he reeled off a podium top spot winning mark total as Jarvis added a further 18, plus two on time, to finish comfortably clear of Morris as Wigg matched his first lap 32 mark lap one on his final circuit, as fifth placed Sam Haslam went over the dreaded ton again, as did sixth finisher Ross Danby who rushed his final lap to a heartbreaking 47 marks.
It was a close call for seventh finisher Lee Sampson as he had just one mark to spare ahead of Gary MacDonald, but six of Sampson's total were time faults, both closely followed by George Morton again ahead of Craig Robinson as the lower order struggled throughout the day.
Making the whole exercise look very easy, previous week's Expert runner-up Joe Baker, who lives amongst almost identical rocky terrain in Devon, rode his first lap for a gentle three-mark total on his Scorpa, as round one winner, 125 Beta-mounted Yorkie Jack Challoner, went into double figures, followed by Gas Gas's Dan Thorpe, who rode most of his first circuit with no back brake after a chunk of wood split the brake hose, followed by Chris Pearson and Liam Walker.
