THE 2015 ACU S3 Parts National Clubman Championship Easter double header in Wales saw the mid Wales centres Powys Trophy Trial on Sunday followed-up by the Llangollen clubs always popular Lomax Cup National on Easter Monday.

The picture postcard north Wales village of Glyn Ceiriog was the start point for this cracking traditional trial which takes in 36 sections on a 40 mile loop with acres of forestry going. The sections were a good mix of steep forest bankings and rocky streams with the club mindful to try and make the event fair for all, early numbers as well as the usually favoured late starters.

The club attracted a maximum 120 entry with a good spread of competitors across all classes including a gaggle of none championship experts gunning for overall victory and the Lomax Cup.

With a beautiful sunny day emerging from early morning thick mist conditions were basically very dry in the forests, although there was plenty of water in the streams, making for a relatively low scoring trial. And those low scores were mainly down to some excellent riding rather than easy sections because as a challenge the event proved very nearly perfect for a Clubman round.

The battle for the overall Lomax Cup winner was a good one with four riders in single figures and two of those on just two marks apiece, Sam Haslam and Ross Danby. As both lost marks as dabs in separate sections the Lomax went down to the furthest clean rule and that gave the nod to the on-form Gas Gas UK star Sam Haslam as he made it to the 12th section, the last of three at Cwmclwyd, while Jotagas mounted Ross dropped his first mark in the fourth sub at Hafod-y-Garreg, in the dark forest above the village of Pandy.

Richard Sadler, following his win at the Bemrose, had a day of dab-itis to finish on five while Welsh Champion Iwan Roberts, winner of the previous day's Powys Trophy, couldn't quite replicate that form.
