Lucky seven for Dabill
By TMX Archives on 22nd Oct 09

IT was a case of seventh time lucky for James Dabill who finally won a closely-fought Lakes Two-Day National Trial at the weekend when it was once again based in the Cumbrian village of Broughton-in-Furness. That's because you've never ridden a Gas Gas in the Lakes before! pointed-out John Shirt when Dibs' victory was confirmed on Sunday afternoon.
The Gas Gas UK rider just shaded victory by a single mark from arch-rival Michael Brown on the Sherco and fellow JST Gas Gas rider Sam Haslam. Michael and Sam actually had to be separated on the most cleans tie-decider, the Sherco man getting the nod 75 to 69 cleans after both lost just 15-marks over 80 different sections. In the huge Clubman class it was popular Teesside character Roger Williams who took a convincing victory from locals Nick Shield and Andy Wilkinson.
The Lakes was run under ‘No-stop' rules this year and although not all the riders were happy with this, by and large the experiment went off well. There were hiccups certainly but the riders, especially the top runners, entered into the ‘No-stop' spirit, whether they agreed with it or not, and a good competition ensued in both National and Clubman classes.
