Motocross

After the previous round at Hawkstone Park the AMCA British Motocross Championship powered by Datatag and supported by Dunlop returns to hardpack on Sunday (July 10) for round five of the series at Boraston.

With a total of just nine races remaining in the 2016 series Luke Burton (MX1) and Josh Waterman (MX2) still lead the way. Burton (Rikki Priest Frasier Husqvarna) currently holds a 63-point advantage having never finished outside the top three in the 11 motos completed so far!

Gary Gibson is second while James Dodd has jumped into third after a podium at Hawkstone. Dodd is rapidly returning to his best form and sits on 484 points, the same total as Richard Cannings.

Also still in with a chance of breaking into the top three are Ryan Crowder, defending champion Luke Dean and John May while the likes of Clinton Barrs, Luke Meredith and Adam Harris have a little more work to do.

Although not making the MX2 podium for the first time this season at Hawkstone Park, series leader Josh Waterman (JD Racing/IDS Transport KTM) still holds a massive 159-point advantage and must now be considered odds-on favourite to bag the 2016 title. In what has been an incident-packed championship, the superb Waterman has been the model of consistency.

At present just 46 points separate the next seven riders with Lewis King, Jansen Day, Luke Mellows, Adam Wells, Zac Stealey, Paul Neale and Bradley Tranter all in contention. Chuck James Wainwright, Lewis Meadows, Cory McShane and Brandon Benjamin into the mix and it's clear to see why MX2 is destined to thrill right until the final chequered flag!

With James Lane suffering a big off in the second Two-stroke clash at round four, series leader Ben Saunders (KTM) took full advantage to stretch out his advantage in the standings to 70 points. So far the super-smooth Saunders has never been placed outside the top two positions in any of the 11 completed motos.

With Lane also ultra-consistent, behind him there is a scrap for third spot with 33 points separating main contenders Elliot Stones, Matthew Bath, Richard Lloyd and Sam Callow.

In the separately scored Two-stroke 125cc class it's Rory Jones leading the way ahead of James Coombes and Andrew Ellis. Jones is having a great season and also holds 10th in the main Two-stroke standings.

Matt Gordon (Technical Solutions Suzuki) increased his Vets class advantage and is now 53 points clear. In the opening Hawkstone moto his closest challenger Simon Lane suffered with clutch problems and a rear-wheel puncture.

However Lane, the defending champion, still holds second in the standings ahead of Danny Blakeley and Hawkstone winner Terry House.
