The Motul ACU British Motocross Championship heads to one of its most spectacular venues this weekend as Monster Mountain near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales (CF48 4AQ) hosts Round Five with title battles intensifying across all classes.

Set in a rugged landscape, the fast, technical circuit provides a stern test for riders. And with championship standings tightening, Sunday’s racing could prove pivotal.

In the Apico MX1 class, all eyes will be on Conrad Mewse, who arrives back at full fitness after an injury-hit start to the season. The Crendon Tru7 Honda rider has regained momentum in recent rounds and will be aiming to extend his advantage at the top.

Standing in his way is none other than Jeffrey Herlings. The five-time World Champion brings undeniable pace, but recent mechanical issues have hampered his GP campaign – something that could yet play a role as the Dutchman looks to stamp his authority on British soil.

Just one point behind Mewse in the standings, Ben Watson is firmly in the title fight. The Dirt Store Triumph rider has been a model of consistency and will be determined to reclaim the red plate he held earlier in the season.

SS24 Gabriel KTM’s Oriol Oliver remains within striking distance, sitting just 12 points off the lead. Improved performances on the GP stage suggest he is building momentum, while Adam Sterry (Chambers Racing KTM) is expected to return from injury and could yet shake up the front-running order.

In MX2, Charlie Heyman has been the standout performer so far. With four wins from eight races, the SC Sporthomes Husqvarna rider holds a commanding 37-point lead over ASA United GASGAS runner Ben Mustoe, who claimed his first overall victory last time out and is closing in on consistent front-running form.

Veteran Tommy Searle remains a key contender. The Dirt Store Triumph-riding multiple British Champion has steadily built momentum after a quiet start to the year and sits third in the standings, within touching distance of Mustoe.

Meanwhile, Gyan Doensen (SS24 Gabriel KTM) will be looking to rediscover the form that saw him take an early-season win, having shown signs of improvement in recent international outings.

The RFX 125cc class continues to deliver some of the most intense racing on the schedule, with Drew Stock in dominant form. With victories in all but one of his 12 races so far, the JK Racing Yamaha rider has established a firm grip on the championship. Harley Marczak remains his closest challenger, consistently finishing inside the top three and keeping the pressure on.

With strong entry lists across all classes and a challenging circuit set to test both skill and machinery, Monster Mountain is poised to deliver another decisive chapter in the 2026 Motul MXGB season. Make sure you’re there to see the action!
