Reaching the Heights!
By TMX Archives on 23rd Jul 09
LAST weekend saw the MC Federation roll into the Canada Heights circuit in Kent for two days of great race action. With three separate championships over the weekend, it was always going to be a bumper event and it delivered just that. There were 3,500 spectators on hand to witness awesome racing in the Fuchs-Silkolene Two-stroke championship on the Saturday with the added pleasure of watching the UK's top women racers over the two days as they showed their mettle in the Girlracer' Women's Nationals. Then the weekend really hotted up as many of Britain's top professional racers took to the rough and ready circuit for the Red Bull Pro Nationals. With the back-flipping madness of the Red Bull Exhibition tour also in tow and putting on a breath taking display, the whole weekend was superb.
With the track in tip-top condition, the scene was set for some bar banging action and yet again the two stroke racing delivered the goods. With the opportunity for the pros to get some race time in before the Red Bull Pro Nationals the next day, several of them took advantage. Carl Nunn once again busted out the 250 MVR-D Suzuki with James Noble on the big 500cc STR/Proppa.com Honda and his teammate Jordan Rose on a 250. Gordon Crockard also made an appearance as he continues to work on his rehabilitation from his early season injuries.
TWO-STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP
First out on the day were the 125cc machines, they cut a groove around the perfectly loamy elevation changes of Canada Heights. Following his recent British GP exploits, Steve Bixby was the man in the 125cc Experts, as he stormed away at the front in the opening moto. He was followed home in the first moto by LPE Kawasaki's Jamie Smith. Danny Tollett, who these days spends most of his time coaching, proved that he can still race a bit too with a solid third.
Bixby hit the front in moto two and again racked up another win. This time though, series leader Jim Davies presented a challenge that kept Steve honest throughout. The potential of Darren Redman shone through again as he nailed down a third.
With two wins from two, Bixby went into the final race of the day as favourite for another victory, but it wasn't to be. Once again, he got out in front but this time he was slowly pegged back by Smith who ground him down to take the win. Steve brought it home second to secure the overall win, whilst Sean Stephens proved he's been putting the work in recently and bagging a third in the final moto on his CJP Honda.
GIRLRACER NATIONALS
With an extra race to their weekend schedule giving them two races over each day and a new series sponsor in the form of www.girlracer.co.uk, the Women's series had a buzz about it and once again it was Natalie Kane who buzzed around the rough circuit to completely dominate. Right now she's in a class of her own and the other young women are going to have to step it up to even get close to her. With Kane out in front and long gone, it was Kerry Wilson who bagged second overall with three seconds and a third. Wilson just had enough to edge the three way battle for the remaining two podium spots. The final step on that podium went to Stacey Fisher who scored 4-5-3-4 race results to edge Amie Goodlad off the box.
RED BULL PRO NATIONALS
With no World GP date clash, round three of the Red Bull Pro Nationals was oozing with talent as 80 Pro racers made for two solid groups on the day. Red Bull KTM UK put a full team out this time around as Stephen Sword and Jake Nicholls joined their team-mates, Graeme Irwin and Alex Snow, to compete in their first Pro National event.
The Buildbase CCM team was represented by Tom Church and Ray Rowson who is finding his feet again after a long spell out with injury along with Honda's Gordan Crockard. So with these guys joining the series regulars it was set to be an awesome day's racing and it was!
Incredibly, Stephen Sword fired off the concrete alongside Tom Church in the opening Pro moto. The old sparring partners then battled all race for the win but it was Swordy who slowly edged away for the race win. Behind them MVR-D Suzuki's Matiss Karro had blasted his way to third in the race but had to take a look over his shoulder going into the closing laps as James Noble closed in.
