SSDT update - Day Four - Thursday
By TMX Archives on 6th May 15
DOUGIE Lampkin is a man on a mission and on Thursday, the fourth day of the 2015 Scottish Six Days Trial the Vertigo team manager posted his second consecutive clean sheet which extended his lead to seven marks over new second place man Sam Haslam as the Gas Gas man got his second wind with a three mark loss for the day, the scores now standing at 15 to 22
And just one mark astern of Sam is Sherco's super-steady James Fry who is still right in the frame should Doug or Sam slip even slightly.
Riding right At the bak today Gary Mac must be disappointed to have dropped seven marks but is right in the running on 25 while Richard Sadler dropped to fifth on 11 for the day.
Thursday saw every possible combination of weather including several snow flurries down Glencoe and it was very cold on the higher slopes. This was combined with a long 120 mile daily route that took the field down Glencoe and old-faithful sections at Chairlift and Ba House before heading out over bleak Rannoch moor that would see the entry out to remote Rannoch Station before heading north via Loch Ossian to the final group at Fersit.
Four of the five girls are still looking good with Emma Bristow again in awesome form sitting in 42nd overall having dropped just 14 today. Also looking to go the distance are Becky Cook and Sandra Gomez while first timer Jess Bown shows no fear in the sections and just takes it all in her stride.
It might look like Dougie's crusing it but there's still two full days left and Friday sees Doug on his early start and with les than a dozen riders in front of him he really has to trail blaze. And there are some tough hazards to face around the superbly picturesque Moidart loop including the steep, loose, slippery ascent of WDs that can easily catch early arrivals.
Friday is Doug's big test of the week...
