THE final round of the Midland Centre Championship was run by the Stratford-upon-Avon club at The Warren, Shenington, on Sunday when, with heavy rain forecast for later in the day, the club was understandably nervous about the course, but fortunately the weather held off until nearly the end.

The club had set out three routes, one for the Experts and Intermediates, one for Clubmen and Over 40s and an easier route for Beginners and old dodderers, there being 16 sections and three laps.

The hard route was won by Steve Saunders, back on the two-stroke Beta after his world premier win on the four-stroke last week, with a superb ride during which he indulged in only two dabs on his second lap. In second place was new Midland Centre Champion, former National trial Fantic-riding ace Mark Hicken, on 22 marks lost. In final place and worthy of a special mention for tackling the Expert route, was a Polish immigrant Oskar Osika, losing a total of 168 marks.

There were no centre Intermediates entered, so Kev Taylor is the new centre Intermediate Champion. Justin Howells from the Oxford was the lone Inter-mediate entered and he finished on a mighty score of 127 marks lost.

On the Middle route, the new Midland Centre Over 40 Champion Clive Charlton had an outstanding ride to lose only eight marks from Ali Haigh in second place on 21.

Best Clubman was Scott Faulkner on 24 marks lost. Alan Newman retains the Midland Centre Clubman Championship, although well down on 45 marks lost. Leo Rochfort was the best Youth on 42 marks lost.

On the Easy route, evergreen Kevin McCullagh was best with just one dab, an excellent ride.
