Firbank Fell in the Lake District and close to the home of DBR and T+MX News, hosted the DBR/ T+MX Firbank Fell Challenge last weekend. Westmorland MCC provided the venue and the WOR Events crew laid out a course, which took in many of the spectacular views of the area.
Situated near Kendal, high on the fells, the area was roasted all weekend long and this definitely had an effect on most of the riders in the multiple races on Sunday. A four-hour Ironman and two-man team event was joined at the two-hour mark by a two-hour race, which seemed a more sensible option in the heat.
The first race of the day began just after midday, with the high temperatures making many riders question their decision to enter the four-hour event. The Ironman classes were well attended as were the two man team divisions and
as the race began the dust was horrendous.
As the race progressed the course and dust improved significantly with lines and berms forming around the numerous twists and turns of the bone dry course.
