TRIALS TORQUE: Lakes Two Day keeps everyone happy!
By John Dickinson on 15th Oct 15
WITH pushing 200 entries the Lakes Two Day had a lot to do to keep everyone happy but with two well planned routes through each of the 80 separate sections (40 per day) and a fine sunny weekend it was as near perfect as you are ever going to get.And it was a true National entry with welcome social parties from Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland and of course Wales as well as all corners of England.
Great to see former World Championship contender Rob Crawford back on a bike, over with an Ulster gang which included Andy and Colin Perry, Gareth "The Bull” Andrews and Michael McCosh. Rob showed plenty of flashes of his old form as he rode to 13th on the Championship route, just in front of Isle of Man ace Barry Kinley.
Fantastic
The weather was a revelation and the fine, clear conditions caused Northampton's Johnny Lee to exclaim, "I never knew we were so close to the coast, the views are fantastic, you can see for miles!”
Jonathan and pal Steve Swanson enjoyed the dry bankings and cambers, if not the slippery Cumbrian becks, and finished well up the field in the ultra competitive Clubman class.
World Ladies champ Emma Bristow, who rode the National class, headed an impressive list of five girls with Katy Sunter, Jess Bown, Chloe Richardson and Louise Alford more than holding their own in the Clubman.
It isn't easy keeping events like The Lakes going as land is increasingly hard to gain permission to access, so full marks for the organising team for adapting in an ever changing landscape - they were denied one plot of land due to be incorporated on Saturday literally at the last minute but still kept 40 sections.
Finally congratulations to Iwan Roberts for winning The Lakes at his first attempt - there's just no stopping the Welsh Wonder this year...
