LOCAL ace Len Hutty clinched a dramatic last gasp victory in the Talmag Trophy trial after a nail-biting tie-break decider on Sunday.

Hutty, who was the favourite going into the event and is a past multiple winner, finished the day tied on zero marks lost with Ariel-mounted Roger Higgs, but took the decision on the faster time through the final special test.

The 49-year-old from nearby Frimley Green took his 410 Matchless through the special test in a stunning time of 28.97-seconds, the fastest of the day and almost a clear ten-seconds ahead of his rival to claim the honours once again.

Despite weeks of inclement weather prior to the event, conditions were near perfect for the two-lap 15-section event, as indicated by the results. "I grew up on these conditions,” explained undisputed sand maestro Hutty afterwards. "They call us the Sandmartins,” he added referring to his liking for the sandy MOD terrain.

Chris Collins and Martyn Wilmore, both riding Ariels, finished level on points with one mark lost, Collins again taking the decision with his faster time in the special test.
