Harison Skelton Crowned Trial3 World Champion
By Team TMX on 7th Sep 26
Harison Skelton (Scorpa) is a world champion.
The British youngster held his nerve in Zelhem to secure the Trial3 Junior crown at the TrialGP of the Netherlands, bringing a season-long battle with Italy’s Fabio Mazzola to a dramatic conclusion.
The championship had been finely balanced from the start of the Dutch weekend, with Skelton and Mazzola locked together on points.
But Skelton made the crucial move on Saturday.
After finishing second in the opening race, he bounced back to win race two on just five marks lost, giving himself an 11-point advantage over Mazzola heading into Sunday.
That meant the pressure was firmly on.
Skelton responded exactly as a championship contender should.
He finished second in Sunday’s opening race on eight marks, two behind Germany’s Marco Laure (Beta), while Mazzola could manage only third. That result increased Skelton’s advantage still further and put the title within touching distance.
There was no need for heroics in the final race – just a cool head and a clean finish.
Skelton delivered, completing the race in third on six marks to secure the championship. Laure took the race win, with Germany’s Oscar Wuensch second, but Mazzola’s sixth place left him with no way back.
The Trial3 Junior title was Skelton’s first FIM World Championship crown, while Mazzola had to settle for silver and Laure took bronze.
“A world championship title – I can’t believe it,” said Skelton. “It’s taken me many, many years to get to this stage and here I am! I’m pretty much speechless.”
