Record extender Toni Bou takes X-Trial World Title
By Team TMX on 8th Oct 24
Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou has secured a record-extending 36th world title as victory at the fifth round of the X-Trial World Championship in Andorra put him out of reach in the championship chase with two rounds to go while delivering Bou an 18th X-Trial world title in a row.
"It has been a very special day,” said Bou. “Winning the title here is incredible for us. We struggled a lot, we didn't feel good and we had a crash in Zone 1 on the opening lap, then we started the second lap badly but we managed to qualify. Then, in the final, on the last part we were at our best. Being able to win on the last zone, winning the race and the title is a dream come true for me. I want to thank the whole team for the great work they have done this year."
It was Jaime Busto (GASGAS) who won the qualifying rounds ahead of Bou and his teammate Gabriel Marcelli. A tough second lap in the qualifying round saw Brit Toby Martin (Montesa) drop behind Adam Raga (Sherco) in the running order to place fifth on the night.
In the Final, Busto beat Marcelli in the fight for the runner-up spot on the night leaving them tied for second in the series. Martyn is fourth in points and looks fairly safe with events in Estonia and Spain still to run.
