Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou took another step closer towards winning the 2025 FIM TrialGP World Championship with a dominant performance in the Japanese GP held at Motegi. After rain on Saturday made the sections wet and muddy, much more pleasant conditions greeted the riders for the second day of action and a good number of Japanese trials fans came to check out the action.

The front three were quite consistent on Day One, Bou winning both races ahead of Jaime Busto (GASGAS) and Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda). Day Two saw Busto and Marcelli trade second and thirds with Marcelli getting the nod on the better second race tiebreaker.

It was super tight behind the front three with Matteo Grattarola (Beta), Aniol Gelabert (TRRS) and Jack Peace (Sherco) almost equalling each other all weekend. Grattarola ran 5-5 for a haul of 43 points while 4-6 overall results paid Gelabert just as many points. Peace, meanwhile, scored a point more across the weekend after 6-4 overall finishes – the individual race results were critical to his advantage.

Beta’s Harry Hemingway took top honours in Trial2 – finishing second overall on day one and then topping the podium on the second day. Miquel Gelabert (Honda) impressed the HRC top brass by topping the podium on day one – however, the RTL Electric rider couldn’t match the performances of Hemingway or Defending champ Billy Green on the second day and had to be content with third. Hemingway’s stunning weekend sees him move 12 points clear in the points race.

George Hemingway had 11-5 day finishes to maintain fifth in the championship with Jack Dance (GASGAS), Harry Turner (Sherco) and Alfie Lampkin (Vertigo) also making the long trip worthwhile by sticking points into their accounts.

Berta Abellan (Scorpa) dominated both days in the TrialGP Women class to extend her series lead over Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta). Abellan won three races out of four and took the bonus point on offer in the Power Section. Sherco’s Kaytlyn Adshead had a great weekend – finishing third overall on both days to move into third in the series standings. Beta’s Alice Minta was fifth on day one then improved in the dryer weather to tie on points with Adshead on day two but lose out on the tie-breaker. She sits fourth in the standings as Czech TRRS rider Denisa Pechackova struggled to 6-10 finishes and slipped down the running order of the series standings to sixth.

The championship now returns to Europe and the island of Corsica for the boys ony GP of France on the weekend of May 30/ June 1.
