Toni Bou wins the war on the shore at TrialGP of Great Britain

The opening day of the TrialGP of Great Britain delivered plenty of drama as the world’s best trials riders descended on Anglesey’s Trac Mon circuit for Round Four of the FIM Trial World Championship. Conditions began dry and bright, but a lunchtime rainstorm turned the shoreline rock sections treacherously slick. A large and vocal crowd lapped up the action regardless.
Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou was once again in a class of his own, taking a commanding TrialGP victory – his seventh of the season – with wins in both races ahead of fellow Spaniard Jaime Busto (Beta). Italian veteran Matteo Grattarola completed the podium, edging out Britain’s Harry Hemingway. The young Brit impressed with third in race one but a heavy crash and a handful of frustrating fives in race two left him fourth overall with 3-6 finishes. Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda) and Miquel Gelabert (Honda Montesa) rounded out the top six, while Sherco’s Jack Peace secured seventh after consistent 6-5 scores.
In Trial2, Sherco’s Harry Turner made it back-to-back overall wins with 1-3 results, just holding off Beta’s George Hemingway who responded with a strong 5-1. Alex Canales (Montesa) joined them on the podium. Jack Dance enjoyed a standout ride on his GASGAS to claim fifth overall, while Billy Green (Scorpa) finished eighth and Alfie Lampkin (Vertigo) impressed with a career-best seventh in race one on his way to tenth overall.
Trial3 belonged to British teenager Harison Skelton who dominated with a pair of convincing race wins. Series leader Fabio Mazzola (TRRS) settled for second, while Marco Laure (Beta) claimed third after winning a tie-break that denied Max Dance (Scorpa) a maiden podium. Patrick Larsen (Scorpa) was another to miss out, while Brits Max Golla (GASGAS) and Mason Vasey (GASGAS) both scored points to the delight of the home fans.
In TrialGP Women, Beta’s Andrea Sofia Rabino doubled up with two race wins ahead of series leader Berta Abellán (Scorpa), but the headline story was Alice Minta. The Brit delivered two third-place finishes to secure a well-earned podium and move up to third in the standings. Vertigo’s Kaytlyn Adshead finished sixth overall with 5-6 results, while Alicia Robinson (Beta), Nikita Smith (Scorpa) and Sophie Bailey (GASGAS) completed the top ten.
Polish GASGAS rider Justyna Lonycz topped Trial2 Women, but it was Matilda Arbon who stole the spotlight. The Sherco rider claimed a superb second overall to move into the championship lead. Abril Montserrat Junque (Beta) was third with former leader Daniela Hernando fourth. A strong British showing saw Summer Peters (Scorpa) sixth, Sophie Ferguson (Hippel Racing Beta) seventh, Brianna King (GASGAS) eighth, Lily Butterworth (TRRS) tenth and Seren Walters just outside the top ten.
All told, it was a cracking opening day for the home riders, and they’ll be looking for more of the same on day two. Tickets are available on the gate at Trac Mon – well signposted from the A55 towards Holyhead – and with sunshine forecast, there’s no excuse not to get yourself here.
