Trials Torque: Girls power up double header
By Jason Bellinger on 4th May 16
THE Acklams Beta British Ladies and Girls Trials Championship is now well into its stride.
The first two meetings of the eight-round series, staged by the North Berks and Lincoln clubs respectively, have already completed.
And competitors are now looking forward to rounds three and four, which take place on consecutive weekends.
Sunday, June 5, will see the series visit the south west when the Torridge club host round three at their well-known and excellent venue at Lower Wembsworthy Farm, Hartland, near Bideford, Devon, EX39 6EN.
There will be three laps of 12 sections set over a two-mile, all off-road course, with kick-off time 10am.
Alan Pearce is your contact on 07899-917005.
Then, just a week later on Sunday, June 12, it is up to Yorkshire where the Yeadon Guiseley guys and gals will be in business with the fourth round at their equally excellent Dob Park, Otley, LS21 2NA.
Again there will be a compact, short course in the wood which features rocky streams, climbs, gullies and rock outcrops.
Kim Whitton is secretary on 01535-656770. It is worth pointing out that the Ladies and Girls are allowed an Assistant, who must be at least 18 years old and who must NOT be mounted on a motorcycle at the event.
And they muust, of course, sign-on beforehand along with their rider.
The two opening rounds have been well attended with around 40 Ladies catered for in a variety of classes as a total of three routes must be included through each section to cater for and to encourage riders of all abilities.
As expected the premier Ladies class has been dominated by reigning World and British Champion Emma Bristow, who has won both rounds so far including a superb clean ride in her local Lincoln club promotion.
But former champ Becky Cook (inset left) has been keeping Emma on her toes as has the irrepressible Donna, Fox who was second in the North Berks club's opener.
And promisingly, Jess Bown and Louise Alford are making progress towards the top three with their private rivalry urging them onwards and upwards.
