THE 2007 SPEA World Trials Championship moves into totally unknown territory this weekend when the second round of the series takes place in Guatemala, South America. This is the first time in the history of the World Champs that a round has been staged in South America and nothing whatsoever is known about the state of trials in Guatemala!
Somewhat surprisingly, a total of 31 riders have signed-up for theoverseas trip into the unknown including no fewer than seven Brits.
And following the opening round in Spain we have at least one Britin the top three of all three categories, World Champs, Junior Cup and125 Junior Cup.
Repsol-Montesa sensation Toni Bou leads the World Championship fromreigning champ Adam Raga while seven-time champ Dougie Lampkin islooking to capitalise on his excellent third place in Spain over thetwo rounds in Guatemala. Doug travels well and nothing fazes him soDoug could easily be the surprise package in what could be a strangeenvironment.
Joining Doug in the 15-strong Championship class will be JamesDabill, an excellent sixth in Spain on The TWR Montesa and Shaun Morrison the Gas Gas.
Michael Brown leads the Junior Cup after a great win in Spain andthe Mighty Atom will be looking to justify the South American adventurewith another bagful of points on the TTT Beta. Michael will be joinedby Gas Gas UK rider Alexz Wigg, who took a fine third place in Spain,on the lone 125 mount from the eight Junior entrants, and Sherco riderLee Sampson.
There are also eight Youth competitors making the trans-Atlanticflight including lone Brit Ross Danby who is looking to improve on hisopening round third place by getting the better of Spaniard AlfredoGomez and French opponent Alexis Cervantes.
This is an important event for all the competitors with two roundsto count over the weekend. Only the Japanese event will also enjoy twodays of competition in order to help justify the cost for the mainlyEuropean entry. All the EWuro rounds are staged over just a single day.
