IN THE FAMILY

Colunists

IT'S a nice wee surprise when a family member wins a trophy, even nicer if it's two members who pick-up nice shiny silverware, but three? How often does that happen? Family Campbell, from Kilmichael on the west coast of Scotland, picked-up three pieces of shiny stuff at round four of the Glenrothes club's championship at Leuchars on Sunday.
Thirteen-year-old Douglas grabbed fifth place in the Small-wheel 85cc class, 10-year-old Lewis snatched fourth in the Junior 65cc class and seven-year-old Harris sneaked in with a sixth in the Autos to send the family home again with smiles on their faces.
Dad Stewart was especially proud of the lads as he is seeing the rewards of his labours with the newly re-formed Mid Argyll MXC paying off as the boys have been practising regularly at the club's new track at Achnashelloch, near Lochgilphead.
Riders from opposite ends of Argyll are coming to the new track and are really enjoying the natural terrain to ride and train on, said Stewart on Sunday. They are taking inspiration from Scottish riders Billy MacKenzie, Shaun Simpson and Stephen Sword. They are really putting in the work on the new track that our new committee has developed here. We open the track on Wednesday nights and on Saturdays, he added.
