LAND OF THE ELITE
By TMX Archives on 6th Aug 08

THE fifth round of the WP Elite Youth Cup Series took place in Landrake, Cornwall, at the weekend and boy was it an exciting weekend's racing for the UK's premier Youth riders.
Landrake, home of previous British Championship events, was a suitable stage for the popular Elite Series showing that the best young riders in the country deserve the best tracks to race on. The circuit was in perfect condition with a light drizzle keeping the surface sticky and producing lots of lines which made for great racing in all classes.
The youngest kids on the block got the ball rolling in the Junior 65cc class. Danny Lanfear made Landrake his own with four wins and a second place in the final moto on Sunday. Danny was looking for his first ever maximum but didn't quite manage it as Conrad Mewse took the chequered flag in race five.
The Junior 65cc brigade blast up the Landrake start straight.
Speaking to Danny's dad mid-race: "Danny is fine, it's me that's nervous!” The riders behind Lanfear were battling amongst themselves throughout the two days of racing, youngest of the Kellett brothers, Todd, took a much deserved second ahead of super quick Ben Green in third. The top six were rounded off with Ryan Snaith, Josh Gilbert and Dylan Hodgkins.
The Small-wheel 85cc class this year has seen some of the best racing in the Elite series. This round was no exception as James Dunn and Ben Watson swapped race wins throughout two days of spectacular action. Dunn was the most consistent this time, with three wins, and showed that his final year in the class could well be a championship winning one.
