Paul Bolts' to the Scott
By TMX Archives on 7th Oct 09

SEVERAL people have talked about this before but on Saturday, October 24, Lancashire's Paul Bolton will be the first person ever to attempt to complete the Scott Trial on an ENDURO bike! Paul, a National standard trials rider as well as enduro ace says, The Scott has been described as the greatest test of man and machine, and that's on a machine made for the job! I will be riding the 86 miles of off-road (which should be the easy part) and 76 observed trials sections on my Eurotec Fat Cat MotoParc KTM 250EXC!
The historic event is based on time and observation and in past years there have been as few as 20 finishers, depending on the weather. The reward is an immense sense of achievement and a prestigious Gold or Silver teaspoon for the top finishers! Riders lose marks on observation as in a normal trial but are also docked one mark for each minute they finish after standard time.
In order to be classified as a finisher competitors and their machines MUST complete and pass through the Ends cards of every single section. This means that Paul can't just push his front wheel into the Begins' cards and then miss the rest of the section and blaze away.
He will of course be watched by eagle-eyed observers as well as thousands of spectators. The main spectator sections might not prove to be too bad but there are some real nasty rock steps and waterfalls in out of the way sections where he might struggle. But Paul is an experienced Extreme Enduro rider and is well capable of man-handling his machine virtually anywhere!
Paul says: Why am I doing this? I am raising money for the North West Air Ambulance that saved the life of a close family friend. The Air Ambulance relies totally on public donations. It receives no central government or lottery funding, yet provides a service seven days a week, 365 days a year. The importance of this service to on and off-road bikers is vital, as many of you will realise!
You can donate through my JustGiving website which is simple, fast and secure. So please dig deep and donate to help the North West Air Ambulance save more lives. Go to the web site www.justgiving.com/PaulBoltonScottTrial
