EASY winner of rounds two and three in the British Youth C Trials Championships, and riding in his home Bro Cader Club's round four at the Cesailgwm Bach, nr Dolgellau venue, near Barmouth, North Wales, Iwan Roberts seemed to hit a bad patch on Sunday when he found himself in a relatively distant third place at the end of the first of three laps and failed to improve on that situation.
However, first round winner Billy Bolt, who led at the end of lap one, also lost out to East Yorkshire youngster Dan Peace, who posted his first Youth C win in great style recording lap totals of 8-4-4 to beat Bolt by eight marks at the finish.
Runner-up to Peace on marks lost on laps two and three, Roberts lost out after his double-digit first lap fiasco and failed to catch Bolt by one mark, but at least carries a slender one-point lead in the series into round five.
Level with Peace on points after round three, Jack Price got to sixth on Saturday at the end of a close battle between Dewi Jones, James Stones and Price.
The scrap was won by Jones, one mark ahead of Stones with Price a further two marks in arrears.
Ensuring a happy drive home with the family, Jack Peace matched big brother, Dan, when he scooped the Youth D Medium-wheel, extending his lead in the series ahead of runner-up, Sam Yeomans winning by just three marks.
Both were far ahead of Sam Johnson and Aaron Goodlad in that order.
Safely clear of Joe Hiley in the Youth D Small-wheel, Toby Martin put on a superb display, dropping just 28 marks, 15 of which were on lap one, followed by a lap for ten and a three-dab third circuit to hammer Hiley by 33 marks and easily claim top spot in the series as previous leader, Ben Teasdale, finished sixth on the day behind third placed Jonty Tupman, Zac Collinson and Joe Dawson in that order.
