FORMER national champion and Grand Prix winner Gordon Crockard will make a welcome return to the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship following his recent stint in the USA, where he has been riding the GNCC and Hare Scramble series under the Scott Summers banner.
Crowd favourite Crockard will ride a PAR Honda at the sixth round of the series at famous Foxhill next Sunday, July 27, as the Irishman makes his first return to top-flight motocross since quitting the discipline at the end of the 2007 GP season.
The traditional US summer break has allowed Gordon to return to the UK, to compete in a few selected event before returning Stateside to ride the remaining four rounds of the GNCC series.
Speaking about his motocross comeback, Crockard stated. "Having not ridden a motocross race since the Czech GP at the back end of 2007, nor having done any motocross practice of any kind since moving to the USA, the last week has been a real baptism of fire
"Since getting back from America last Tuesday, I have ridden three events in under a week in preparation for Foxhill. Whilst I have been out of the game for the best part of the year, I am determined to be competitive before I return to the British championship.”
Gordon concluded. "I last rode at Foxhil in a KWS meeting back in 2006. It's not my favourite track, as it is so fast and everyone is so quick there. Hopefully the changes they have made will suit me better and give me the chance of getting a good result. Taking everything into consideration, I would be happy with a top five finish, but if I am totally honest I would like to come home second behind Billy.
"I am under no illusion I can win as I know how quick Mackenzie is at the moment, but hopefully I can mix it with the other front runners and bring some added interest to the MX1 title race. Even talking about it now makes be slightly excited, and equally nervous. Anyway, I am going to go there and have fun, and after that anything else will be a bonus.”
Gordon Crockard is a three-time winner of the MX1 crown, with the highly popular Irish rider having lifted the title in 2000, 2001 and 2003. All three victories were achieved aboard Honda machinery, the latter following a brief spell on a factory KTM during the 2002 season.
Crockard has yet to confirm if he will compete in any further rounds of the 2008 Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship.
