THE rideoffroaduk Hare and Hounds Championship moves to Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, for round two of the series, on the weekend of April 18/19. Norwood, near Teversal, is located minutes from the M1 at junction 28. This iconic venue played host to televised scrambles in the 1960s and 70s. With the old motocross track still winding through this woodland venue, it makes the perfect area for Hare and Hounds action. The course will be similar to the one used back in September 2008 with some new extra loops added to keep the track fresh for this the first of two visits planned in 2009.
The weekend starts with some Youth class action on Saturday afternoon, starting at 1pm for a 90-minute duration. After a positive start at round one the organizers expect more youth riders to attend this centrally located venue.
Once again the youths will be treated to use of the full adult loop enabling them to have a great work out on a full-length track.
Sunday marks the return of the highly successful two-race format. At 10am is the Sportsman-only event. Rideoffroaduk sees this class as the backbone to its series and the decision was made to give these riders sole use of the track without the faster riders constantly pushing through the field.
At 1pm prompt the afternoon event will start with Expert, Over 40, Clubman and Trials class riders doing battle. The Trials class was introduced at this particular event last year and it proved very worthwhile to the trials lads who wanted to have a thrash around for 2.5-hours.
Clerk of the course, Wayne Braybrook, reports that the venue is more than ready, that camping is available from Friday afternoon, and that top class trophies and product prizes will again be presented to the top three in each class at the podium area after each event.
To ensure a quality event the limit has once again been set at the first 150 completed entry forms to arrive through the post. Entry forms are available on the website www.rideoffroaduk.co.uk or by calling Wayne on 07802-572023 to book your place.
As they say before each event, book-in early to avoid disappointment, places will fill fast at this event due to its central location.
