WILDBOARCLOUGH, near Maccles-field, is the venue for the 60th running of the Northern Experts Trial which will take place this Saturday (November 10) where the organising Manchester 17 club will have a facelifted course for this popular event, writes Barry Robinson.
Sadly, last year's winner, Shaun Morris, will notbe able to defend his title as he is still out of action thanks to theeye injury he sustained before the final British Championship trial amonth ago. British champion, Graham Jarvis, was not in the 2006 eventbut he is this year, along with Michael Brown and Michael Phillipson.Dan Thorpe, Chris Pearson, Lee Sampson, Ross Danby, Sam and BenLudgate, George Morten and local ace Craig Robinson are all in themelting pot. Only 29 of the 136 entries will be wearing the hard courseorange bibs.
Harvey Lloyd and his course-marking team havesussed-out their 2007 trial with the emphasis on Clough House, CloughGully, Ben's Ditch and Plantation, then a hike across the moors to theA54 (watch out for the road bike loons) and back to Eardley's Burdenunder the evergreens above Wildboarclough. A dozen sections are in theClough House groups and another five on the slabs over at wild andwoolly Danebower. Eardleys will be wet and slippery. The event will runover several laps.
Jude Mellor, top gun for Manchester 17, has issuedtwo requests which must be respected. The first is not to use the carpark at Clough House. That is there for the tourists, not a load ofwhite Transit vans! The second is not a request, it is a YOU WILL DO',or not ride. All competing machines, and any others, must be pristineclean. No attached mud, earth, etc. Vehicles, if horrendously filthy, will also be turned away from Parc Ferme. The Manchester 17 Motor CycleClub have been squeaky clean in all matters relating to Foot and Mouthdisease, and are ever-vigilant even though the problem is not nowmaking headlines.
The action starts at 9.30am from Wildboarcloughwhich will be signed off the A537 Macclesfield to Buxton road and theA54 Congleton to Buxton road. In the event of any dramatic weatherchanges (not planned!) the club has three phone numbers to contact:07966-524819, 01625-871474, 07977-137018.
