Tommy’s tough choice

Tommy Searle faced a dilemma during the first European EMX2 moto, which ended Saturdays programme at St Jean.

The Brit (right) and Christophe Pourcel had given JJ Luisetti a double victory in the MXGP qualifiers and JJ's junior Maxime Desprey was chasing the win in EMX2 until the last lap.

However the French kid's main rival was Tommy's fellow Brit, Mel Pocock, who is also Tommy's training partner!

Tommy chose right as Mel overcame a pack of awkward lappers, who cost him not only his three second advantage but also the lead.

Mel, who had taken over at the front with a fabulous pass at the fourth corner after the start, had held a narrow but sustainable advantage for most of the race.

Then in the last two laps the pair came on two packs of lappers who just didn't move out of the way.

Desprey took advanage to get past in the whoops.

But Mel wasn't going to let him have it that easy and sliced his way back past before the finish to make it England 2, France 1 on the day!
