DESPITE being the only British rider competing in the sixth round of the '07 World Enduro Championship staged in Parry Sound, Canada, KTM-mounted youngster Tom Sagar again showed the form that just one week earlier secured him his first ever WEC day win to produce two more podium finishes in the Enduro Junior class, only narrowly missing out on victory on day two.
In the three Senior classes, Finn Juha Salminen continued his winningways in Enduro 1 with a double class victory while Mika Ahola andSamuli Aro claimed a day win each in the Enduro 2 class. In Enduro 3championship front runner Marko Tarkkala crashed out on day oneallowing Ivan Cervantes to claim two comfortable day wins.
Britain's Tom Sagar put the finishing touches to a highly successfultwo-event WEC trip to North America last weekend by claiming podiumfinishes on both days of the GP of Canada and only missing the top stepof the podium by five seconds on day two.
Confident of a good result having claimed his first ever WEC day winthe week before at the GP of USA, Sagar again showed that he is one ofthe brightest rising young stars of the international enduro scene.Finishing just 12 seconds behind eventual day one winner and reigningEnduro Junior world champion Joakim Ljunggren from Sweden, Tom waslocked in a three rider battle for the class win on day two andeventually claimed a close second despite a costly fall early in theday.
''I've had two really good days,'' beamed Sagar after the event. ''It'sbeen hard work with the heat, and riding in the sand's not exactly mycup of tea, but I'm pleased with the way it's gone and so is the team. It's been well worth coming to the two North American events.
''I didn't have any major problems on either day although I did fall onthe motocross test on lap one on day two. If I hadn't fallen I feellike I might have been able to get onto the top step of the podium.I'll have to work on that for the next round of the series. I'm reallyhappy with the way things have gone, crashing and still managing to getonto the podium is really pleasing.''
With Ljunggren topping day one the Swede could only manage fourth onday two as French Gas Gas rider Christophe Nambotin topped the podiumahead of Sagar with Italian Thomas Oldrati claiming third.
