Ben's king of the 'stone age
By TMX Archives on 16th Sep 09

IT'S all change at the top of the AMCA MX1 Championship table as, with just one round remaining, Ben Saunders has leap-frogged both leader Brad O'Leary and Charlie Hollis to lead the way with a 23-point advantage.
During Sunday's penultimate round at Walterstone, Saunders blasted to a perfect maximum points score while O'Leary endured a day he would rather forget. After falling in the opening two motos and having to recover from last back for a very hard earned ninth and 13th places respectively, Brad finished the day with a far more productive third spot.
Meanwhile, in MX2, Lee Dunham reeled off another overall win and now requires just 32-points from the final round to confirm a richly deserved, first ever AMCA MX2 title.
Although fast-starting Mark Hooley scored a moto win at Walterstone, the advantage still belongs to Phil Mercer in the battle to finish MX2 runner-up, as he edged 13-points ahead of rival Matt Porter.
With tension naturally high at Walterstone, the riders' resolve, concentration and character was to be pushed to the limit by a series of delays which resulted in the first championship moto of the day eventually blasting off nearly three hours-behind schedule.
