Morris Lusts for glory!

SHAUN Morris finally brought Graham Jarvis' 2007 Colin Appleyard British Solo Trials Championship winning run to a halt when the Gas Gas UK-sponsored Lancashire lad won round five, the West of England Trial, staged by the West of England Motor Club at Kelly Farm, Lustleigh, Devon. Shaun had finished second four times to four-stroke Sherco-mounted Graham but was in superb form for the super-tough West Country round.
With constant rain the preceding week but with dryweather forecast for the day, Clerk of the course Anthony Rew and histeam really had their work cut out, and cut out they did, with severalnew sections.
The action started on Saturday afternoon'spractice session, when on the second sub, Graham Jarvis twisted hisback and didn't ride any further sections, confining himself to walkingthe rest.
This year all the sections were marked outconsiderably longer than before and on Sunday, the relatively gentlesection one saw several cleans, though fourth placed rider Alexz Wiggpicked up an early five.
On section two, eventual winner Shaun Morris wasthe only clean on the first lap and in fact Morris recorded superbcleans on all three visits, with Jarvis being the only other rider toget through the section unpenalised.
The third sub then saw no rider managing betterthan a single dab, the seven-foot undercut boulder at the end of thesection, stealing marks from everyone.
Section five saw some real action and it was herethat Jarvis's day began to fall apart with a series of pointed rockssaw riders having to balance their bikes on rocks whilst several feetfrom the ground. Shaun recorded a super clean, really putting thepressure on Graham who just couldn't find enough grip, sending himsliding backwards, handing Morris a clear lead that he was to hold forthe rest of the day.
The ninth saw Morris drop just his second mark as a superb clean by Jarvis drew the balance back a little.
It was on to the all-new section ten, a realstopper with a huge jumble of rocks on the steep hill. Morris was someway ahead of his main rival Jarvis and right on the edge of a clean hegot his Gasser jammed, then slipped back to record one of only twofives of the day. This threw the door open to Jarvis and a simplesuperb one-mark ride saw Jarvis thread the Sherco through the section.
