Stephen Sword - Podium spots not two bad n race front
By TMX Archives on 15th Jun 12
The last few weeks have been good and consistent on the racing front, with two podium finishes out of three race meetings.
Landrake was the next stop for round one of the Red Bull Pro national.
Myself and Ayrton headed off from home on the Saturday morning – we had to pick my dad up on the way as he was flying into Bristol airport.
We arrived at the track in the afternoon in plenty of time to have a good look around – and more importantly for Ayrton to have as many goes as possible on the bouncy castle before we had to leave for the hotel.
Sunday went very well for me – winning both races felt great and being at the front was good too.
It was a nice little boost for myself and the Tyco Suzuki team, after putting in a lot of hard work in the previous weeks.
We headed back up home, dropping my dad off at Bristol to get the plane back to Scotland.
The following week I did some riding at Rocket World and some training in the nice sunny weather, ready for the next British Championship round at Milton Park.
I headed up to Milton late Saturday afternoon and had a look at the track before heading out for some tea with the team.
The race could have gone better, I wasn't that happy with my riding all day really, but I came away joint third on points with Josh Coppins, although he got it on the better last race.
The two of us had a good race in the last 30mins plus two-lap combined race.
That was the first meeting so far this year where they introduced the top 20 mx2 against the top 20 mx1.
It was a longer race as well and I think it separates the stronger and fitter riders from the rest.
I then enjoyed a weekend's rest before round two of the Red Bull at FatCat.
After all the good weather we had been having it rained non-stop all day at FatCat.
But although the track was wet and rutty, any other venue would have been unrideable.
My main goal for that day was two podium finishes, as with conditions the way they were it would have been easy to lose a lot of points.
I had two third places giving me third overall and meaning I kept hold of the Red Plate in the series.
I was happy enough with that and look forward to the next round at Canada Heights, which is one of my favourite tracks.
There is again a couple of weeks' break before the British at Desert Martin.
With the team being Irish and me Scottish you could say it's a local one for me.
I'm heading over to Ireland a bit earlier that week to ride and test before the race.
I will be hoping for good things and look forward to letting you all know how the next month pans out.
