WITH Josh Coppins unable to ride, Steve Ramon wrapped-up his second world title by joining Suzuki teammate Kevin Strijbos and a rejuventated Marc De Reuver on the MX1 podium of the '07 GP finale at Lierop, Holland, on Sunday.
It was the 27-year-old's first podium since Swedenin June, but the Belgian showed maturity and speed to always controlhis own destiny in the title-clinching opening moto, beforeshrugging-off the discomfort from the wrist and scaphoid injuries whichhave hampered him for the past month, to go head-to-head with hisfellow podium men in race two.
Billy MacKenzie put in two professional rides toend the day best non-local in fifth overall, while James Noble had hisbest day since mid-season to round out the top ten. Mark Jones had twogutsy rides into the points and CAS Honda boys Ken De Dycker and MikeBrown confirmed their fifth and seventh rankings in the series.
It was back to business as usual in MX2 with adouble win for Toni Cairoli as the Italian scored his 11th GP win ofthe year, but Gareth Swanepoel ended the season as he started, with apodium, only losing the opener on the final lap to the new champ, tosettle his dispute with Nico Aubin over the number five plate and TommySearle confirmed his world number two ranking with his 10th podium ofthe year.
Of the remaining Brits, only experienced CarlNunn, Tom Church and Shaun Simpson made the cut to score twice each,while Sean Hamblin picked up seven points as reward for learning thegentle art of sand riding the hard way during the week.
